Additions to The Command T.O.C.

The Command T.O.C. started as one person's protest to the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and the Bush administration. In particular it became THE source of information for Individual Ready Reservists who were in the middle of a huge involuntary draft by the United States Military. 

Over time, our mission has expanded especially since one of the major strategic objectives, getting rid of the Republicans and neo-conservatives in power, was accomplished. Hopefully, we played a small part in doing this. Certainly, over time, the mood of America came closer to our opinion which we established back in 2004. 

We then worked hard to get Barack Obama elected and, again, hopefully we played a small part in making that happen. Since then we have expanded our mission to helping people with all facets of their life. We have not lost focus on the wars (as they are still going on) and we continue to pressure President Obama to end the Afghanistan War. However, we have taken on new missions which we believe are core to our values here at The Command T.O.C. They are:

1. Pass universal health care. Reform our health-care system in the United States
2. Fix our economy. Get rid of debt, fix the banking system and put the Wall Street Criminals (of which there are many) in jail
3. Help with personal finance. (You will see a new category called "Personal Finance" and from the right margin you can click on this category to filter those posts) As we continue to have this horrible economy (which we predicted as early as 2006 and believe it is a direct outcome of the wars and the horrible Bush economic policies) we at Command T.O.C. want to post the most meaningful content we can find to help you identify what you can do to survive this dismal situation.
4. As always, we will post and comment on public interest stories across the board. 

We have further added some functionality thanks to our friends at Typepad. You can use the "share this" button to post onto social media sites and comment at other sites you see fit. You can "Digg" posts and you can now "favorite" posts and post to "twitter" right from the post. You will also see "Link within" links which are generated under each post to highlight other links and posts you may be interested in. 

Finally, we did purchase the domain "ThecommandTOC.com" so if you just go to www.thecommandtoc.com you will get here. No longer do you have to remember a longer, less intuitive site name. 

By adding this functionality we hope this is making your reading experience far more interactive and applicable to what you need to hear and want to talk about. As always, please feel free to post comments with suggestions on how you would like The Command T.O.C. to look.

Where Have All The Posts Gone?

You may be asking yourself if I plan to keep up blogging and the answer is absolutely yes! Three things have caused traffic to decrease here for the past month or so. I will elaborate on them. 

1. First, I discovered Twitter and am on Twitter almost every hour. My "Tweets" are posted in the sidebar to this blog but you would be far better off just subscribing to me on Twitter. You can do that by hitting the "follow" on @kevinaom page. I have found twitter a far more "up to date" medium which fills the gaps in the blogging. In my mind a blog post every few days in depth with "tweets" in between is the perfect social media. 
2. Barack Obama won and the Country appears to be on the right path. I started this blog as a way to help IRR soldiers get exemptions from deployment, bring down the Republican party and get the Country moving in a better direction. Virtually all three of those have been accomplished. While clearly I was only 1/10000th of this I at least can say I participated and helped in a movement that succeeded. Now the Republicans are looked upon like a caricature and they are seen as the "fringe" which is exactly what they are. They are not even taken seriously by the Country as a whole.  
3. The wars are winding down. Everyone thinks these wars were a mistake. There are still the whackos who want to claim we found WMDs or that if we had not blown up Iraq they would have blown us up but those people have been relegated to being the "whackos" and nothing more.  

So, with all of that I do intend to Blog more frequently than I have and will continue to blog on politics and the war but I am also going to expand my blogging to those other topics I am interested in which include: finance and business, gardening, sports and life in general. 

I will also be filling in the gaps at Twitter so come on, join me in the Twitter revolution!! 

My DailyKOS Diary

I haven't linked to it for a while but I do maintain a "diary" on the DailyKOS. Some of the posts are cross posts from this blog but I like to do that as it gets a lot of good commentary there.  You should go to it just so you can be assured I was supporting Barack Obama back in January. No "bandwagon jumping" here. :)

A New Posting Editor

Usually I do not remark about the technical stuff on blogging but I am now using the new editor for Typepad and I think I like it. There is a new layout and more access to the formatting features.

I must apologize for the posts below with a title but no body. I used FLOCK to post and it seems there is a problem with the passing of information. I am going to test one more thin and if that does not work then I am back to posting right from Typepad and skipping FLOCK.

Going to Start Moblogging

I just figured out how to get my phone to communicate with Typepad and do some "moblogging". The issue right now is that I can only post via text message which means they will initially come in with no subject and certainly no tags etc. Those I will have to fix when I get back to a computer.

But, I thought it would be fun to do some more "real time" and "quick hit" blogging. As I will be doing this on a small phone, these will be quick posts which show, in general, my experiences and thoughts at the time.

Test... OK, I think we are Fixed

I know a number of people told me the network was down and I think I have finally fixed it. There was a service from a website called "Blogtricks" which I used and that service appears to be down. This caused a lock up when you tried to log on. Please provide feedback if you are still having trouble.

Subscribe to Comments and Change in Display

I have made some adjustments in how The Command T.O.C. appears. The first change is that comments are now sorted newest to oldest. There are some posts that are getting a lot of comments and rather than you having to scroll through everything, you can now see the most recent comments which are probably the most relevant.

Also, I have added a new feature to the comments and now you can subscribe through a RSS reader to the comments. I hope you still subscribe or come here to view the newest posts as I continue to find and report on the most important military and political information. But, if you are very interested in a specific set of comments (like the ones on the IRR open posts), you can subscribe to the RSS feed.

Finally, do not forget to DIGG the posts you are very interested in. This is a service which allows you to record which posts are of importance to you. If you are not sure what I am talking about go to www.digg.com and it will explain how to use this feature.

Why Was The Command T.O.C Offline

Many wrote and correctly identified that I had taken the Command T.O.C off-line for a while. I did it because I figured the job was done. Bush is a disgraced President and the Iraq War policy is a disgraced policy. I had thought that except for the crazy right wing lunatics, everyone knew the war has been a failure and the Bush Presidency is a failed Presidency.

I was wrong.

I had a conversation today with a person who reaffirmed that you cannot leave this Presidency alone for a minute. This person showed me that even "normal" Americans have come under the right wing lunacy spell of the Bush war administration. It is interesting because when Germans are asked how they became Nazis, a lot just basically say "We did not know".

When history writes the results of this age, I think many right wing lunatics, when asked how they could possible support such death and destruction across the world, removal of Civil Liberties at home, and the economic destruction of the United States, the lunatics will say, "We just didn't know". Well, YOU SHOULD KNOW!

So, I have decided to continue to write. I cannot sit by and watch this disaster continue. We need to put pressure on both the right wing and the left wing (who have started to tacitly support this war) and we cannot let up. Apathy is truly surrender and until these right wing nuts are out of power, I will never rest.

Results of New DOD Blogging Policy Still Being Debated

As many of you have read, the DOD has come up with new policies on blogging. Some have interpreted this to mean Milblogging is basically dead and some have said that it is merely restricting use of DOD bandwidth. This article in Internet News shows the debate this new policy has caused.

It certainly means MILBLOGGING will now be called out for what it is: Censored propaganda from "the front". Soldiers have ALWAYS been prohibited from reporting anything which gives out OPSEC (Operational Security) items and they cannot show the American Military in bad light. In other words, a soldier cannot blog, "My Commander is an Idiot..." I have said this from the very beginning when nimrods such as "Dadmanly" and "Mudville Gazette" tried to portray themselves as "free speech" journalists. Now, the DOD is just publicly stating the policy which agrees with what I have said for so long.
