The Real Issue with Terry Shiavo
I think the real issue that should be discussed with the Terry Shiavo case after she passes on is how we will deal with the fact that we will be able to, soon, prolong life forever. What will we do in this situation? Should we require people to have a living will and call out what their wishes are and for those who do not have one a court appointed arbitrator handles it?
Also, will we allow people to prolong their life indefinitely? This is a core question because who will pay for this care? For example, who is paying for Terry Shiavo if she were to go on forever?
These questions must be answered because the reality of keeping the body (the vessel) alive forever is a real possibility. A good FAQ on this is at the Euthansia website.
