    Garden Blogging

Today I am spending the day in the garden. Thought I would take a quick break and post some pictures. The first couple are of the front garden under huge oak trees. It is mostly made up of very shade tolerant perennials with a few annuals spread in to get some color. Hostas are great for this environment.

100_2046This is the back garden against the front of the house. Mostly ferns and Hostas but also some other perennials. A good layer of organic mulch helps it grow. I have the sprinkler on here which is fed from a  well (thank god for my checkbook's sake).

100_2052This looks at the back garden from the house looking out to the street. I love the little statue of the boy on the bench and you cannot see it but he has a Labrador puppy with him.

We have a son and a black lab so this is very appropriate.

100_2053This is a view of some of our backyard gardens. You can also see our deck which is a great place to sit and listen to the birds and think or read. The wireless makes it out there so I can also sit on the porch and blog, check email or just surf the web.

100_2057Here a bird sits on the birdbath in the back. Notice the humming bird "garden art" that mirrors the bird. Thought this was a good shot.

Well, that is it for now, off to change the oil in the car!

And Now for Something Completely Different... Fish Blogging!!

100_1309New fish tank for my son (and me) 75 Gallons!!! Here it is all set up. Notice the RENA canister filter on the bottom. Keeps it very nice and clean.  The second picture shows the entire room where the fish tanks are kept (our basement). Here we have the "original" 20 gallon tank which was to determine if we would continue and to the right is the 75 gallon tank.

100_1293We maintain African Cichlids (Aggressive fish) in the smaller tank and South American Cichlids (semi aggressive fish) in the 75 gallon tank. You can learn about these fish here at the Cichlid site.
