PT In the Morning
One thing I do miss about the Army is the morning PT. That was fun on a bunch of levels. First, it is always fun for the camaraderie. Nothing better than an early morning run with 200 of your best friends all running and singing in cadence. Second, there is the fact that it just was the right thing to do. It kept you in shape and I firmly believe that physical shape keeps the mind in shape.
Once entering civilian life, you have to do it because you want to not because you have to. For me, there always seems to be an excuse. I either have an early morning meeting, I worked late so I want that extra hour of sleep or whatever it is but there is always an excuse. Today, I ended that.
Having "invested" in a G2B Body solid home gym (Girl was not in the package, I have asked for a partial refund) from Body Solid for my son, I decided to use it myself.
While one day does not a habit make, it certainly is a start and as many people have said prior to me, "This is the first day of the rest of my life". The fact that I was not working out previous to this does not excuse not working out in the future. I am going to write about this mainly for therapy; writing about it seems to keep me focused on it. So what did I do today:
- Short run/walk with my dog (work out partner)
- Bench press, lats, sit down row.
Every time I have started one of these I realize the first few days are the toughest. Change in diet, routine, and just the fact that muscles which are not regularly used are now sore, add to the first few day issues. I will get by that though and look forward to posting about my next 10K!!!
