Cheney is in Panic Over Investigations

I am watching the Chris Wallace interview with Darth Vader a. K. A Dick Cheney about the interrogation investigation. Two points:

1. He is scared to death which tells me he knows he did wrong.

2. His basic belief is that it does not matter if what they did was illegal. As long as it was "successful" the Constitution does not matter.

Both views are bizzare and coming from an ex VP is down right scary.

Beck Advertising Exodus Continues

The good news is the exodus of advertisers continues off of the craziest show to be on T.V. since Mr. Ed. The good news was Mr. Ed was funny and was a talking horse. Mr. Ed talked from his mouth though. Glenn Beck is the "other side" of Mr. Ed if you know what I mean. A partial list of GREAT COMPANIES leaving this crazy nut bag:

Glenn Beck - The Head Nutbag

Sorry Sean Hannity and Ann Coulter, you have been dethroned. The head nutbag on the right is now clearly Glenn Beck. He believes President Obama is a racist, he believes people should bring guns to President Obama's meetings, he believes health care should not be reformed (even after he told us 1 year ago the health care system was the worst in the world), to name a few of his idiotic stances.

Yes, the torch has now passed and the new one on the thrown of right leaning nutbags is none other than Glenn Beck. But, of course, don't ask him to spell oligarch right. He literally cannot spell the word even though he tries to use it in a fun, kind of folksy way. 

Edward M. Kennedy - R.I.P.

I just watched the Kennedy ceremony at the Steps of the U.S. Senate and I was moved. I wonder truly if there will ever be a time in America when we are not consumed by the "game" of politics but rather are moved to push this Country foreword for the ideals we stand for? The ideals Edward M. Kennedy stood for. 

Today, politics is such a game. It is, as Rush Limbaugh said, "we want the other guys to fail so we can "win". It is a bunch of people screaming like the mobs we have seen in August. It is the screaming fear mongers on T.V. like Beck, Hannity, Coulter and that group. They are not leaders. They are doing damage to this Country. 

Even if you disagreed with Ted Kennedy, his motives could never be challenged. He was not for "winning at any cost" he was for rights, equality, justice, health-care, education and whoever would help with that he became an ally. I am sure if Ted Kennedy were asked "Would you want all those things but give up the Presidency to the Republicans for life" he would have said yes. 

Today, it is about winning. It is a "blood sport". It is people screaming at one another. 

Let's hope in his death, his memory will change all of that. 

Please. We need another Kennedy

I am watching the burial of the great Edward M. Kennedy and hoping another Kennedy will step up. I am hoping Caroline can become the standard bearer

This Country needs the Kennedys. We need their leadership, their vision and their decorum.

When is Stimulus not Stimulus?

I just read a crazy article in the local paper. A hospital applied for stimulus money to add a building. However, the said they will build the building regardless of whether they get the stimulus money.

So, if the building is going up anyway, isn't it just welfare money?

Republicans Looking for "Great White Hope" and Proud to Be A Terrorist

The Republicans are continuing to show their ugly side during this August recess and the mob meetings they are holding. Here are just a few items which are outlined by The Indianapolis Examiner:

According to news reports, at a recent town hall meeting at Simpson University in Redding, Ca., 67-year-old Bert Stead rose and declared himself a “proud right-wing terrorist.” U.S. Rep. Wally Herger (R-Calif.) replied. "Amen, God bless you. There is a great American.”

Looking for the "Great White Hope" to fight President Obama:

U.S. Rep. Lynn Jenkins, a Kansas Republican, made a blatantly racist remark last week. Jenkins said the GOP was looking for a "great white hope" to challenge the Democrats and African American President Barack Obama.

Bank Failures Continue - 3 More

While the market is rallying, somewhat irrationally in my opinion, the hints of a lingering economic problem continue. Today we heard of 3 more banks which are being closed at a cost of over $400m dollars to the FDIC.  The FDIC has close to $13Bl in their insurance account and this account topped $40bl before the economic meltdown began.

So, the lesson is this is not over yet. Since the TARP was never really used to buy troubled assets (despite its name), banks are sitting on billions of dollars of assets which need to be written down. As they take losses due to foreclosures and other things, they cannot survive.

This, along with pensions, medicare, and social security, tell me the meltdown has not even come close to finishing.
