Oops, I guess the Army wishes they had this back. Thanks to Today in Iraq, we learn that the Army had highlighted PFC Steven Green of the 101st as "Keeping The Streets Safe in Iraq" on their Public Affairs (PAO) site (I will link but I am sure soon it will be taken down).
One minor problem as this is the same PFC Green who is now being charged with the rape of an Iraqi woman in this complaint here.
If that damn New York Times would stop reporting the truth maybe we could go through all this and not have the American public know our "secrets"! If we only could have just PAO announcements and no independent press, think how "great" this war would be going!
Even if the NYT backs down, thank God we have Blogs such as Today in Iraq to bring us truth!
UPDATE: Jack Army picks up on the story and does not like my coverage. While he rightfully takes exception to my "guilty until proven innocent" bent, he does not address the fundamental and underlying issue. This issue is that, as this case proves, if we had to rely totally on a Government to provide us information, it would be incomplete. Therefore, we NEED the independent press to probe and prod and, yes, reveal "secrets" when they can. Here is a simple example of a case where the Government got caught with bad information and they continue to show it! Even if he is not a "rapist", it is a person with a known personality disorder who was kicked out of the Army who they show as making the Iraqi streets safe?
Jack Army says:
"The spin in that post would have you believe that supporting the war and/or the current administration means that you want all negative stories buried and only positive ones told."
Well, Jack, that is true. Your side of the ledger has spent the better part of 3 years blasting any blog which reports anything that may even remotely be against this war and this President. The mouthpieces for your side (Hannity, Coulter, Mudville, O'Reilly etc. etc.) say that it is "treason" whenever I or anyone else post "negative" items or show how the war has gone sour. We are even accused of "helping the enemy" and "getting soldiers killed" by exercising our right to free speech and by engaging in the political battles. Yes, while you may be somewhere in the middle, the majority of the MILBLOGs immediately jump on anyone who is reporting this side of the ledger while immediately approving of anything that remotely puts things in a good light. Yes, the neo-conservative chickenhawks would love nothing more than to have the press in their pocket.
They hide behind "secrets" and words like "treason" when in reality the neocons have a full blown war declared on information, control of information and freedom of the press. I, for one, have taken them up on that war and am fighting back.
The only good news is that the Government is so incompetent that this type of information is easily seen through by the educated populace.
The Government could not have known when that picture was taken that he did it but don't you think they would have removed it by now?
